Vienna – As reported, the new “We Water” anniversary fountain in the Sonnwendviertel was only put into operation last Tuesday. It is now a hotly debated topic in some tabloids and on X (formerly Twitter). On the occasion of the 150th birthday of the Vienna high spring pipeline, it was designed by the Gelitin (or Gelatin) artist group, which won the competition announced by the City of Vienna – Vienna Water and Art in Public Spaces GmbH (KÖR). At the opening, Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) called the work a “fountain for togetherness”. However, not everyone seems to like this; some of the fountain’s 33 concrete figures have already been defaced in the last few days.
