The new head of the data protection authority, Matthias Schmidl, pointed out on Friday that his authority’s staffing levels were too low. “In total,” there are too few employees “to be able to complete the number of procedures within the legally specified deadline,” he said in the “Ö1-Mittagsjournal”. With the introduction of the Freedom of Information Act in mid-2025, he expects the number of cases to increase.
