Wien Energie is currently building a new large-scale heat pump system in the Spittelau waste incineration plant, which will produce heat for around 16,000 households from 2025. It is intended to make use of the residual heat that is still contained in the flue gas following exhaust gas cleaning. According to a press release from Wien Energie, the large heat pump with 16 megawatts of thermal output will also increase the energy efficiency of the entire waste incineration plant by 13 percent to more than 95 percent.
