New mayor of Aguadilla orders a municipal audit

The mayor of Aguadilla, Julio Roldán signed today, during the formal ceremony of swearing in of office, a contract to begin a municipal audit. As he said, in order for “Aguadillans to know where the municipality is spending the money and where municipal efforts are being directed.”

“One of my programmatic commitments, when I was a candidate, was to develop a Transparency and Anti-Corruption Plan. One of the main components of this plan is to carry out an audit of the contracts awarded in the last 10 years and make all the information on the management and public spending of every agency in the Mayor’s Office accessible to the public, so that everyone knows the fiscal reality of the municipality ”, mentioned Roldán.

During his swearing-in message, he stressed that he will share with citizens the economic and fiscal situation of the City. “The city council is in a serious fiscal and social state. Aguadilla has high levels of unemployment and a municipal debt out of proportion. The last administration spent more than the 50% allowed by law and the fiscal coffers drag a deficit of 4 million dollars in income, “he added.

“I fully understand the mandate that the people carried out last November. This mandate, not only in Aguadilla was clear, but in all of Puerto Rico. For this reason, before I was sworn in, I have already begun to work with fellow members of all parties, traditional and emerging. We all have diverse voices in our opinions and ideologies, but we are united by our desire to serve our people, ”he said.
