New State-of-the-Art Police Training Center Inaugurated in Jumet

Federal police officials inaugurated a new training center for the federal police in Jumet on Tuesday morning in the presence of the Secretary of State in charge of the Buildings Authority, Mathieu Michel, and the mayor of Charleroi, Paul Magnette. This center must give federal and local police officers new training opportunities in terms of controlling and managing violence, in particular.

The center, located on land neighboring another infrastructure also occupied by the federal police, required an investment of some 7.5 million euros, granted by the Buildings Authority. It is made up of two buildings: the first including a sports hall with a climbing wall, a fitness room and a dojo, and the second which includes different spaces allowing scenarios.

The center will be used mainly by police officers from the province of Hainaut but might also be used by those from other provinces, indicated Eric Snoeck, ad interim general commissioner of the federal police.

Except that in the middle of the demonstration, an element of the building falls on our cameraman. “An engine continued to run and straps came loose“, explains Mathieu Michel, Secretary of State for the Digital Agenda and Digital Affairs. “This is an unfortunate situation, which might have happened at any time. For us, it will be important to sort out the last little details like this“.
