New York: The New York Legislature on Tuesday passed a bill that would provide legal protection to doctors who prescribe abortion pills and send them to those in need. The bill will become law once Governor Cathy Hoyle signs it. New York is a pro-abortion Democratic state.
New York Assembly Speaker Carl Heasty said it is a moral responsibility to protect the physical and reproductive health rights of women in the US.
Last year, the US upheld women’s constitutional right to abortion. The Supreme Court canceled it. Since then, most Republican-controlled states have banned or restricted access to abortion and contraception.
