Having recently hired Peter Laviolette as their new head coach, the New York Rangers have continued to replenish their staff behind the bench with the addition of Michael Peca as an assistant.

This was reported Monday evening by Sportsnet network journalist Jeff Marek.

This is the first job in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the man who was an assistant coach in the American League with the Rochester Americans. Peca stayed on for two seasons with the Buffalo Sabres farm club.

The Torontonian, considered by many to be one of the best defensive forwards of the early 2000s, won two Selke Trophies. He had his best years in the NHL with the Sabers and the New York Islanders, between 1995 and 2004.

The 49-year-old also played for the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets.

In 2022-23, the Rangers coaching staff consisted of Gerard Gallant, Mike Kelly and Gord Murphy.
