Paleontologists have discovered the remains of a new species of armored dinosaur on Britain’s Isle of Wight for the first time in 142 years.

And according to what was reported by the British News Agency, the new species, which belongs to a group of plant-eating dinosaurs known as “Ankylosaur”, was discovered in the Wessex Formations on the Isle of Wight, a fossil site dating back between 145 million and 66 million years ago.

The new species was named “Victabelta parete”, following Professor Paul Barrett, who worked for 20 years at the Natural History Museum in the British capital, London.

This is the second armored dinosaur to be found on the island, the first being Polacanthus fuchsi which was discovered in 1865.

“This is the second armored dinosaur to be found on the island,” said Stuart Bond, a researcher in the museum’s Department of Earth Sciences.

Bond explained that the “Vectipalta parete” dinosaur differed from “Polacinthus foxy” in the bones of the neck and back.
