News 24 | After transplanting a pig’s heart into a human body, a consultant explains the similarities between pig and human hearts

Consultant Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Firas Khalil explained the similarities between human and pig hearts, following the successful transplantation of a genetically modified pig heart in the body of a patient in America.

Khalil said during an intervention on the “Yahla” program on the “Rotana Khaleejia” channel, that the similarities lie in the size of the heart, the number of chambers, valves, the heart’s electrical function, and the arteries, noting that the experiments were conducted on many animals, but the pig’s heart is almost compatible with Human heart.

He noted that transplanting an animal’s heart into a human body has nothing to do with human feelings from a scientific point of view, indicating that what is being raised regarding this issue is inspired by “imagination.”
