Breaking News: Nicoletta Romanoff Presents Memoir ‘Like the Vine Branch’ at Lecco Film Fest

At the sixth edition of the Lecco Film Fest, cinema and publishing intersect seamlessly. Actress Nicoletta Romanoff took center stage to present her memoir, Like the Vine Branch, published by Rizzoli and now available in bookstores. The preface is by best-selling author Erri De Luca, adding weight to the significance of her personal journey and narrative.

The Journey of Faith and Cinema

Romanoff reflects on the coincidence that led to her book: “On May 13th of last year, I was wrapping up a film about John Paul II, linking it with the anniversary of the Madonna’s apparition in Fatima. Simultaneously, I received an email asking me to write a book. The theme was immediately clear — to recount my path of faith.”

Her memoir isn’t a story of success, she notes, but rather “a series of falls.” For Romanoff, believing and her relationship with faith developed organically, much like a friendship. She cultivated this aspect of her life with maturity and constancy, finding the courage to share her experiences in Like the Vine Branch.

The Evolution of Relationship with Cinema

When asked about her relationship with cinema, Romanoff shared a reflective perspective: “My journey has evolved consciously. Director Muccino once told me I wouldn’t be a compulsive actress, that I might only make a movie every five years. Now, I yearn for that return to an era when Italian cinema inspired the world.”

Romanoff dreams of being directed by a woman who has an “intimate vision of femininity.” She recently starred in “Paradiso in Fonte” alongside Carlo Verdone, a role that required balancing her own intensity with the calm and respectfulness Verdone brought to the set. She notes Verdone’s difference from directors like Muccino, who embody their characters’ passions.

Recommending Films She’s Watched

On her film preferences, Romanoff favors movies inspired by true stories. One standout is Father Stu starring Mark Wahlberg, which chronicles the transformation of a troubled youth into a leader in his community. Romanoff highly recommends it, describing it as “unexpected and inspiring.”
