National Sports Commission chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko has pledged comprehensive reforms in Nigerian boxing as part of the government’s commitment to revamp the sport in the country.

Dikko said this when he received the CEO of Yucateco Ltd, Hon. Omonlei Imadu, the initiator of the first-ever amateur boxing league in Africa, at the NSC headquarters.

The NSC chief highlighted the Commission’s plans, in consonance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate, to reposition sports in Nigeria to an enviable status, with boxing featuring prominently in the developmental framework.

“The NSC is not oblivious of the issues in certain sports, hence our developmental scheme to revamp boxing and a few others for an exponential efficiency,” Dikko said.

“We operate an inclusive policy, and this is to ensure that no sector of our sports is left behind.”

Dikko explained that the commission has designed a framework to accelerate the advancement of Olympic-rated sports in the country, with boxing falling into this category as part of the government’s broader vision for Nigerian sport.

The NSC boss commended Yucateco’s dedication to amateur boxing development in the country, whilst reaffirming the government’s resolve to foster collaboration with individuals and corporate bodies across every facet of Nigerian sports.

“The NSC under my leadership will continue to encourage those with genuine intentions to support our sports. What Yucateco is doing for amateur boxers is truly commendable, and the commission will support him in every way possible,” he said.
