Nightmarish Invasion: Thousands of Chironomids Infest House in Kanchanaburi, Thailand

2023-08-10 08:52:00

A real nightmare for this citizen of the province of Kanchanaburi in Thailand on August 8th. As he was going to his room to spend a peaceful night there, this Thai resident suddenly heard noises of insects coming from his bathroom. The man then went there to see what was going on and that’s when the nightmare began: thousands of chironomids had taken up residence in his house!

This insect, often mistaken for a mosquito by its shape, often lives on the banks of rivers, seas and canals and always moves in large numbers, often by “cloud”.

Tossapon Jinngee, the resident who discovered all the insects in his bathroom, explains that his house is next to a sea that was at high tide. This brought many insects close to his home, and the lights in his house inevitably attracted those thousands of chironomids.
