A few decades ago, it would have been disputed that video games are a form of art. Today, however, hardly anyone doubts that. Like any other art form, archives, museums and libraries strive to preserve these cultural assets. An ancient statue can be preserved and exhibited. Old paintings are carefully protected in air-conditioned rooms, these are all complex processes, but the preservation of video games is even more difficult. This is due firstly to the short lifespan of data carriers and secondly to the industry itself. Although the latter repeatedly emphasizes that it is responsible for archiving the works, historical games are often no longer accessible.
