While there was talk yesterday of extending the franchise with a new series taking place in Hawaii, we learn today that a place is freeing up on the CBS schedule, since the channel has decided to put an end to NCIS: New Orleans.
The youngest of the franchise, NCIS: New Orleans is currently in its 7th season which will thus be its conclusion. It is now officially canceled and the writers can therefore work on the end of the story.
The reasons behind the cancellation were not made explicit, but the ratings are unlikely to have played a significant role as those remain strong. The series has always been followed and there has not been a notable drop recently. Where it was less calm is behind the scenes. No less than three investigations have been launched following accusations of harassment once morest the former showrunner, Brad Kern, before this one not be permanently dismissed. His behavior would have led to the departure of several actresses. However, the cancellation likely stems more from production costs and the overall profitability of the show.
Anyway, with CBS canceling NCIS: New Orleanswe can only expect a confirmation of the order from NCIS : Hawaii to replace it. For the moment, the series continues until its episode 155 which will be broadcast on May 16 on the American network.
As a reminder, the cast of the series currently includes Scott Bakula, Vanessa Ferlito, Necar Zadegan, Charles Michael Davis, Rob Kerkovich, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, Chelsea Field and CCH Pounder.
