Arriving at the Albuquerque Convention Center in a scarlet leather jacket and biker pants, Noah Lyles announced the color. Two weeks following smashing his 60m record by seven hundredths in 6”44 in Boston, the triple world champion from Budapest last year (100m, 200m, 4 x 100m) has done it once more, Saturday evening in the final of the United States Indoor Track and Field Championships. The 26-year-old showman dominated Christian Coleman by a hundredth, breaking his record once more with 6”43.
And yet, Coleman achieved his best time of the winter
As a reminder, Coleman, 27, holds the world record for the specialty with 6”34, even if it is starting to date (2018). Facing Lyles, in a heated duel, he nevertheless got the best start. But Lyles, pumped up like hell in this Olympic year, struck him down in the second half of the race. Coleman still achieved his best time of the winter with 6”44 (also the 6th time of his career).
Crowned world champion in the 60m in 2018, silver medalist two years ago in Belgrade behind Marcell Jacobs, for a hundredth, Coleman will have a lot to do in two weeks in Glasgow if he wants to return to the top step. Ronnie Baker completes the podium with 6”51.
