More people are currently fleeing the world than ever before. Almost 110 million people had to leave their homes because of wars, conflicts, persecution and violence, the UN refugee agency UNHCR reported yesterday in Geneva. Twelve months earlier it had been around 100 million. Two-thirds of the people had been displaced within the borders of their home countries, and around a third had fled abroad, mostly to neighboring countries.
