Old Dominion Field Hockey Team Secures NCAA Tournament Spot with Big East Championship Win

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion Field Hockey team will travel to College Park, Maryland on Nov. 10 to take on #4 Maryland in the NCAA tournament, as announced on the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Selection Show late Sunday night. The Monarchs clinched an automatic bid and first NCAA Tournament appearance in since 2013 with a 3-1 win over #6 Liberty in the BIG EAST Championship on Sunday.

The tournament consists of an 18-team field, with 10 spots going to automatic qualifiers and the remaining eight teams chosen at large by the NCAA selection committee. The opening round games will be played at two of the four first- and second-round host sites, with the semifinals and finals hosted by North Carolina.

ODU enters the tournament winners of 12-straight and avenging a 2-0 regular season loss to Liberty in the BIG EAST Championship. Maryland enters the NCAA Tournament with a 16-5 record and earned at-large berth following falling to Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship game, 1-0 in double overtime.
