The artists failed to repay their debt to their homeland.

The drama “Belorussky Station” by Andrei Smirnov became one of the main war films released in the USSR. The film was praised for its realistic plot, believable acting and heartfelt story. However, few people realized that Smirnov managed to select artists for his film who did not participate in the events of the Great Patriotic War.

As it turned out, three out of four front-line friends did not actually fight. Thus, Alexey Glazyrin dreamed of defending his homeland, but due to a heart defect he was unable to go to the front. Vsevolod Safonov also did not pass the medical commission. He specially graduated from an aviation technical school, but the doctors did not take him into the service. And Evgeniy Leonov had not even celebrated his 15th birthday by the beginning of the war. Therefore, he might not be at the front and experienced four difficult years in Moscow with his family.

The only one who served during that period was Anatoly Papanov. During the war, he lost two fingers and returned to the rear in 1942, and then entered GITIS and became a famous artist.
