Opening of the Lebanese International Short Film Festival in Tripoli, according to Al-Binaa newspaper

The “Tiro Arts Association” and the “Istanbouli Theater” opened the activities of the third session of the “Lebanon International Short Film Festival” at the Free Lebanese National Theater in the city of Tripoli, under the slogan “Cinema for all” and a tribute to the pioneers of Lebanese cinema, the late directors Maroun Al-Baghdadi and Burhan Alawiya, in the presence of a crowd of parents, students and representatives of the embassies of Poland, Mexico, Germany, from the Philippines, Palestine, Tunisia, and the associations and clubs of Tripoli.
This activity is part of the activities of “Tripoli, Capital of Arab Culture” with the participation of films ranging from fiction to documentary and animation, with 64 films from 25 countries: Australia, Mexico, Poland , Morocco, Bahrain, Iran, Egypt, Sultanate. Oman, Tunisia, Kuwait, Libya, Finland, Iraq, Palestine, Emirates, Saudi Arabia, India, Syria, United States of America, Sweden, United Kingdom, Belgium, Macedonia, France, Lebanon, in cooperation with the Netherlands “Aube” Foundation.
Actor and director Qassem Istanbouli emphasized: “The continuation of festivals, film screenings and free training workshops constitutes an important meeting opportunity and an opportunity for the public to discover the different cultures of the world. We celebrate Tripoli, this historic city. and today, it is the capital of cinema, theater and arts in Lebanon and the Arab world.
Artist Omar Mikati underlined “the importance of festivals and the participation of films from different cultures of the world, and above all, the festival is open to all at the Lebanese National Theater, which constitutes an exceptional and unique case in Lebanon” . This unique experience over 15 years changed the cultural map of Lebanon and the activation of marginalized areas in Lebanon.
Polish Ambassador Przemyslaw Niszewski spoke of “the need to organize the festival in light of the difficult circumstances Lebanon is going through, and that the work that the Tiro Arts Association is doing to open theaters and cinemas in Lebanon is very important for culture and arts in Lebanon, and we await the opening of the historic Coliseum cinema in Beirut.
The festival strives to support local cinema, cultural exchange and organizes training workshops, seminars and discussions with directors. This cinema event allocates a large space for the presentation of films of student projects, as the festival, launched in 2016, is considered a mobile cinema event that takes place in several Lebanese cities, from Tire to Nabatieh, Tripoli, Beirut and Khiam. Participating films compete in the festival’s official competition for the awards for best narrative film and best documentary film, best animated film, best actor, best actress, best photography and the jury prize.
