Kochi: Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muralidharan has left for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to lead the ‘Operation Kaveri’ to rescue Indians from the civil war raging Sudan. The journey is on the instructions of the Prime Minister. The minister will reach Jeddah this morning. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Muralidharan has been entrusted with the responsibility of the rescue mission at Yuvam Vedi in Kochi.
Navy’s INS Sumedha is in Sudan port as part of the mission. About 500 Indians were brought to the port city of Port Sudan. An Air Force C130J aircraft is at Jeddah Airport.
