“Operation Tun Tun… No crying”: Videos on social networks generate anxiety in Trujillo

Valera, July 31 – This Wednesday, videos titled “Operation Tun Tun… No Crying” were shared in the municipalities of Boconó and Miranda, in the state of Trujillo. These clips show videos and photographs of various people, including community leaders, politicians and journalists, while the famous Freddy Krueger melody from “Nightmare on Elm Street” plays in the background. Residents of these towns received the videos via WhatsApp.

The videos include a message that says: “Today it is our turn, we were just watching,” which has been interpreted by many as a mechanism to intimidate and incite hatred towards the individuals who appear in the recordings. The situation has sparked a wave of criticism and concerns about the climate of political tension in the country.

This phenomenon occurs in the context of the recent post-election protests in Trujillo state. The local community and observers have expressed their concern about this type of strategy that seeks to intimidate those who oppose the government.
