OSIRIS-REx Mission: Unveiling the Secrets of the Solar System’s Early Days & the Origin of Earth’s Water

It is expected that blocks from an asteroid will reach Earth the day following tomorrow, Sunday, and these blocks will reveal to humans the early days of the solar system, which is 4.5 billion years old, and the possible origin of water on planet Earth. This comes within the “OSIRIS-REx” mission of the US Space Agency (NASA), whose goal was to collect the largest sample of rocks and dust from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu and bring it back for study, thus ending a mission that lasted seven years. According to Bloomberg News, the mission vehicle will pass by Earth at the beginning of the week to launch a capsule containing the samples and send them to the Utah desert. The sample will help scientists determine what materials were present when the solar system first formed. Researchers believe that asteroids like Bennu have not changed much since the birth of our cosmic neighborhood, and they intend to study the rocks that will be brought back and use the mission to guide future exploratory missions.
