Pakistani Fisherman Becomes Millionaire Overnight with Rare Sowa Fish Catch

Karachi: A Pakistani fisherman has become a millionaire with the fish he caught in one day. Karachi’s Haji Baloch has won the lottery following catching a rare species of fish in a net.

The fish, commonly known as goldfish and locally known as ‘Sova’, turned heads for Haji and the workers. This fish has many medicinal properties. Haji’s boat workers caught these fish in the Karachi sea.

Haji lives in Ibrahim Hydari fishing village. Rare fish got stuck in the nets of Haji’s workers who went fishing in the Arabian Sea on Monday. On Friday, they were brought to Karachi harbor and auctioned, and were sold for around seven crore Pakistani rupees. A fish fetched up to Rs 70 lakh in the auction.

This fish with a weight of 20 to 40 kg and a length of one and a half meters is in high demand in East Asian countries. They are culturally important and are believed to have many medicinal properties. They are used in traditional medicinal preparations and cooking. Soa come close to shore only during breeding season.

Sowa fishes were obtained by a group of seven people. Haji Baloch informed that they will be given a certain amount from the money they got from the sale.
