Palestine – Ramallah considered Israel’s eviction of Christian lands in Jerusalem “the Judaization of the city and a dedication to its annexation.”
This came in a statement by the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following the eviction of land belonging to the Armenian Church in Jerusalem by Tel Aviv for settlement purposes.
On Thursday, the Supreme Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine said that Israel forcibly evacuated last night (Wednesday/Thursday) the “Cow Garden” property belonging to the Armenian Church in occupied Jerusalem, and is trying to control it with extremist settlers.
The committee added, in a statement, “We warn once morest the attempts of the Israeli occupation to control the properties of the Armenian Patriarchate in occupied Jerusalem, the latest of which occurred last night (Wednesday) of forced eviction of the Cow Garden property (land) belonging to the Patriarchate, and the accompanying brutality and assault by the occupation police on the clergy and our children.” Armenian defenders.”
The Patriarchate, or what is known as the Armenian Quarter, is located on the road leading to the “Hebron Gate,” one of the gates of the Old City and the Buraq Wall, which the Jews call the “Wailing Wall.”
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned “the occupation authorities’ attempts to evacuate the Cow Garden, which belongs to the Armenian Church’s property, in occupied Jerusalem.”
It considered the measure “an extension of the occupation’s provocative measures and its continuous attacks on churches, their men, and their property to complete the Judaization of Jerusalem, consolidate its annexation, and change the existing historical, political, and legal situation, and a flagrant violation of the resolutions of international legitimacy and UNESCO.”
The ministry warned “of the dangers of the occupation’s continued targeting of Jerusalem, its sanctities and its identity,” adding that “all of its unilateral measures are rejected and invalid.”
It called on the international community to “assume its responsibilities to stop it immediately, as it is a direct threat to the conflict arena and the entire region.”
During the past few years, Israeli attacks once morest Christian clergy in Jerusalem have increased, whether by settlers or the police themselves, who were involved in many incidents of beating them.
The situation in the West Bank is witnessing great tension as a result of Israel’s escalation of raids, arrests, and raids, in addition to its restrictions on the entry of worshipers into Al-Aqsa Mosque during the month of Ramadan, in conjunction with its war on the Gaza Strip.
