These criticisms did not reach her. On Sunday, August 4, at the Olympic Boxing Championships, Taiwan’s Lin Yuting defeated Bulgaria’s Svetlana Kamenova Staneva at the Arena Nord in Paris to qualify for the semi-finals of the under-57 kg category.

Although her opponents were aggressive and mostly offensive, Lin Yuting remained calm and patient, seizing opportunities. The match holds special significance for the two women who will meet in the quarterfinals of the 2023 World Championships.

Lin Yuting won the contest, but was disqualified by the International Boxing Association (IBA) because she failed to pass a female “biochemical test” and the results were later canceled. Therefore, Svetlana Staneva won the bronze medal in her place.

Since there was no competition for third place in boxing, the Taiwanese player was guaranteed a medal this time by reaching the semi-finals. Algerian Imane Khelif also performed. The 25-year-old boxer, who competes in the under-66kg category, is another boxer at the center of controversy.

During the 2023 World Championships, the two boxers were disqualified for failing to meet the tests set by the international federation. Facing intense criticism from both athletes, especially online, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) assured on Thursday that “All athletes participating in the Paris Olympic boxing competition abide by the competition qualification and registration rules. As with previous Olympic boxing competitions, the gender and age of the athletes are based on their passports.”
