Lima – Against the background of the violent protests in the country, the Peruvian parliament on Tuesday voted in favor of early elections in April 2024. MEPs voted 93 to 30, with one abstention, to move the elections forward from 2026 to 2024. It is envisaged that the current President, Dina Boluarte, will then hand over power to the winner of the general election.
