Patients in a dental office alerted for a risk of hepatitis B, C or HIV

The phone call must send shivers down your spine. This Tuesday, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Normandy announced that it had asked a dental practice in the town of Veules-les-Roses to recall several patients, report our colleagues from BFM TV.

It was following an inspection that the agency “noticed various shortcomings likely to call into question the quality and safety of care,” adds the media. Thus, all patients passing through the office chairs were invited to carry out a serological screening with their attending physician due to “breaches” regarding “hygiene rules”. Indeed, according to the ARS, there is a low risk of transmission of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and very low risk of hepatitis C viruses and HIV.

The serological test makes it possible to detect the presence (or not) of antibodies and to know the patient’s infectious past. According to the agency, all stakeholders concerned have been informed of the situation in order to ensure “good information” for patients.
