Pechino Express 2026: Route, Hosts & New Envoys Revealed

by Omar El Sayed - World Editor

The adventure reality show “Pechino Express” is set to return to screens on March 12th, embarking on a new journey through East Asia. Hosted once again by Costantino della Gherardesca, the program promises a particularly spirited competition this year, with a cast described as resembling a “Martin Scorsese film” rather than a typical reality television ensemble, according to della Gherardesca himself.

This season will see ten pairs of contestants navigating a challenging route across Indonesia, China, and Japan. The show, produced by Banijay Italia, will air on Sky and stream on Now, offering viewers a glimpse into the cultures and landscapes of these diverse nations. The core premise remains the same: contestants will be tasked with completing challenges and traversing vast distances with limited resources – reportedly as little as one euro per day for food and lodging.

Adding a fresh dimension to the show this year are three new envoys, each assigned to a specific country. Comedian and actor Lillo will document the Indonesian leg of the journey, while Giulia Salemi, a former contestant on “Pechino Express” in 2015, will cover China. Sports journalist Guido Meda, known for his MotoGP coverage on Sky Sport, will be stationed in Japan. Salemi expressed her excitement, stating, “China, where I had never been, overwhelmed me with its colors, flavors and new cultures. When I learned I had been chosen, I cried with happiness.”

Costantino della Gherardesca, a familiar face to Italian audiences as an actor, journalist, and television personality, is a key figure in the show’s appeal. Born January 29, 1977, in Rome, della Gherardesca graduated from King’s College London with a degree in philosophy before entering the entertainment industry in the early 2000s, as noted in his Wikipedia entry. He is too known for his aristocratic lineage, being a descendant of Count Ugolino della Gherardesca.

Challenges and Strategies for Success

According to della Gherardesca, success in “Pechino Express” will require more than just physical endurance. “The winning couple will be the ones who study the best, the most studious travelers, attentive to the wonderful world around them,” he explained. The envoys also offered insights into the challenges ahead. Lillo emphasized the harsh realities of traveling on a minimal budget, stating, “It’s really tough: you need physical strength, patience, tenacity and great courage!” Meda, acknowledging the linguistic hurdles in Japan, added that even enjoying the experience will be a challenge.

New Envoys Bring Unique Perspectives

The selection of Lillo, Salemi, and Meda as envoys aims to provide viewers with deeper insights into each country. Della Gherardesca praised their contributions, describing Lillo as having a “nose for luxury,” and highlighting his own paternal guidance towards Salemi. He also noted a cultural synergy with Meda, allowing for a shared understanding of their surroundings.

Meda described Japan as a country with “excellent motorcycles and spectacular people, as long as you don’t bother them,” while acknowledging the complexity of the Japanese language. He added, “It seems banal to say it, but I had a lot of fun!”

A Journey Through Diverse Landscapes

The route itself promises a visually stunning experience. Della Gherardesca highlighted the lush jungles of central Java, the rapid modernization of China, and the unique traditions of Japan as key highlights of this season. He anticipates that the show will be remembered for its “incredible landscapes and the speed of change.”

The show’s format, requiring contestants to navigate unfamiliar territories with limited resources, is designed to test their adaptability and resourcefulness. The combination of challenging conditions, diverse cultural settings, and a spirited cast suggests a compelling season of “Pechino Express.”

As the journey begins, viewers can expect a blend of adventure, cultural immersion, and competitive spirit. “Pechino Express” aims to deliver a unique travel experience, showcasing the beauty and challenges of East Asia through the eyes of its contestants. Stay tuned to Sky and Now starting March 12th to follow the adventure.
