Jeddah: Saudi Ministry of Commerce fined car agencies. Penalties are for non-compliance with commercial agency rules and for failing to provide services to users. Foreign-made car agencies have also been fined.

The Ministry of Commerce imposed fines on 13 car agencies operating in different parts of Saudi Arabia. British, Italian, American, South Korean and Chinese car agencies are among those fined. The penalty is for violating the Commercial Agency Act and failing to provide various services to users.

The main violations found on the part of the agencies are not providing a replacement car or compensation during the repair period, not providing spare parts within the specified time, not accepting the car for maintenance during the warranty period, not providing the spare parts with low demand within 14 days of the user’s request, delaying the delivery of the new car, and not following the maintenance and warranty conditions. The ministry clarified that the spare parts which need to be specially manufactured with technical specifications should be made available within a reasonable period and for this an agreement should be reached between the agency and the user.
