Penning Perfection: Emerging Literary Star Freja Tops Elite Short Story Competition

The short story competition was organized for the first time this year with support from all libraries in Dalarna. During the summer, children and young people aged 10-19 have had the opportunity to participate in the short story competition on the theme “When we are together”.
– We are impressed by the incredibly high quality of the contributions and surprised by how much writing talent there is in our county, says library consultant Lina Josefsson in a press release.
The first prize winners in the three age categories are awarded SEK 2,000, while the runners-up receive SEK 1,000.
Freja Haverinen, 13 years old, from Söderbärke tells how it happened when she wrote her winning short story, Condolences.
– I didn’t really have an idea, I just wrote. I had been given the theme and that was what I started from. Actually, I only knew what I wanted the text to be called Condolences.
