Pentagon accuses Russia of buying North Korean weapons

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

The United States accused Russia of purchasing large quantities of weapons and ammunition from North Korea for use in Ukraine, in a possible violation of the UN embargo imposed on Pyongyang.

“We have information that Russia has contacted North Korea to request munitions from them,” Pentagon spokesman General Pat Ryder told reporters.

“This is indicative of the situation in which Russia finds itself in terms of logistics and supplies,” he added.

“We believe that things are going badly for Russia in this regard,” he added.

The statement by the Pentagon spokesman came following a US official said, on condition of anonymity, that “the Russian Defense Ministry is obtaining millions of dollars in missiles and artillery shells from North Korea for use on the battlefield in Ukraine.”

The official added that these purchases “show that the Russian army is still facing an acute shortage, partly caused by the sanctions” imposed by the Westerners on Moscow following the start of the war in Ukraine on February 24.
