‘Checo’ highlights his progress in his seven years with the British team
He does not have a seat for 2021 yet, but he would leave satisfied with what he has achieved
Sergio Pérez ensures that he has evolved a lot as a driver since his departure from McLaren. In addition, he is happy with what he has achieved in his years in Formula 1 and would be proud of what he has achieved if he had to leave the category.
Sergio Pérez, who achieved a podium last weekend in Turkey, looks a much better driver thanks to his years at Racing Point.
“I’ve learned a lot. Being seven years with a different team, staying in the category, the level of maturity, the level of knowledge, the experience. I am a totally different driver and, above all, much more prepared since I left McLaren“, ‘Checo’ has shared in statements to the Race Fans web portal.
The Mexican driver is fourth in the World Championship with 100 points, but he assures that he should have many more. Pérez was absent from the two Silverstone races for testing positive for covid-19 and this has deprived him of being able to accumulate more.
“I should have many more points. Missing two races has not been ideal in such a short season. But I think that, in general, I am happy and, specifically, with my level of consistency throughout the year,” he insisted.
The Racing Point driver will leave the team at the end of the season and does not have a guaranteed seat for next year. However, ‘Checo’ has always known that Formula 1 is like that and considers himself lucky to have had a career like his.
“I think it’s part of Formula 1. I’ve always known what this is like. I consider myself a privileged person, I have had a great career that has lasted up to ten years“, said the Mexican pilot.
He feels that he has given everything in this decade as a pilot in the premier class and if it were the case that he did not find a seat for 2021, he would leave very proud of the work he has completed.
“In the event that I have to leave Formula 1, I can leave with my head held high because I have fulfilled the resources that I have had and not many people have had a career like mine. So we’ll see what happens, but I’m at peace with myself, “Perez admitted to close.
