Nike founder donates two billion to fight against cancer
Portland. The co-founder of the sporting goods manufacturer Nike, Phil Knight, and his wife want to donate two billion US dollars to the Knight Cancer Institutes of the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). This was announced by the university on Thursday (local time).

“This donation is an unprecedented investment in the millions of people affected by cancer, in particular patients and families here in Oregon,” said Ohsu President Shereef ElnaHhal. The donation will help to give patients access to various resources – including psychological, genetic and financial advice, symptom management, nutritional advice and survival aid, the statement said.

“We could not be more enthusiastic about the transformative potential of this work for humanity,” said the Knight couple.

The university described the donation as the “largest individual donation, which has ever been awarded to a US university, a college or an academic health center”. It exceeds the $ 1.8 billion that the businessman and former Mayor of New York donated to the Johns Hopkins University in the US state of Maryland in 2018.
