PIAA Class 2A Swimming: Arnot Wins Silver, O’Hara Medals

Lewisburg, PA – Interboro senior Ky Arnot added to his impressive PIAA championship record, securing a silver medal in the Class 2A boys diving competition held Friday at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium. While falling short of a historic fourth consecutive gold, Arnot’s performance underscored his dominance in the event, scoring 477.90 points.

The competition was ultimately won by Bishop Shanahan’s Landyn Snook, who posted a score of 490.20. Arnot, a three-time defending state champion, entered the event as the third-highest seed but managed to surpass Pottsville Area’s Adam Klinger by 11 points. This silver medal marks Arnot’s fourth career PIAA medal, a testament to his consistent excellence in the sport. He is one of only seven athletes in PIAA boys diving competition to win gold three years running.

The PIAA Class 2A Championships also saw strong performances from Cardinal O’Hara swimmers, with Brady Turner and Jason Kutufaris both earning medals. Turner finished sixth in the boys 200 individual medley with a time of 1:56.30, improving his personal best by two seconds from the District 12 Championships last month, having clocked 1:56.11 in prelims. Kutufaris secured seventh place in the 200 freestyle, posting a best time of 1:43.85, a six-tenths of a second improvement from his previous best at a YMCA district meet.

Cardinal O’Hara Relay Team Shines

The Cardinal O’Hara 200 freestyle relay team also delivered a notable performance, improving their time by over 1.5 seconds in the finals to finish 10th with a time of 1:29.67. This time was even faster than one of the A finalists. The relay team consisted of Luca Merkle, Colten Turner, Hunter Zimmerman (who swam a blistering 22.12 split), and Jason Kutufaris (with a remarkable 21.21 split).

Klinger Claims Bronze in Competitive Field

Adam Klinger of Pottsville Area earned a bronze medal, finishing with 466.15 points. According to T102SportsNow, Klinger’s performance marked his second consecutive bronze medal at the state championships, making him the first diver in Schuylkill League history to win more than one state medal and the only one to place as high as third multiple times.

Snook’s impressive day didn’t stop with the diving gold. he also finished 10th in the 50 freestyle, just missing out on a medal. The PIAA Championships continue to showcase the talent and dedication of Pennsylvania’s high school swimmers and divers.

Cardinal O’Hara’s 200 medley relay finished 24th overall. Merkle also placed 20th in the 100 butterfly, while Zimmerman finished 32nd in the 50 free.

The success of these athletes highlights the strength of swimming and diving programs across the region. As the season concludes, attention will turn to preparations for next year’s championships and the continued development of these promising young athletes.
