Pokémon Legends: Z-A Ranked Battles Season 8: Mega Evolution Rewards & Rules

Trainers preparing for competitive battles in Pokémon Legends: Z-A have a new incentive to climb the ranks. A special season of Ranked Battles, Season 8, is launching on March 11, 2026, offering players the opportunity to earn substantial rewards in the form of Mega Shards. These shards can be exchanged for valuable items, including coveted Mega Stones and Exp. Candy, bolstering teams for future challenges.

The upcoming season introduces a unique ruleset focused on Pokémon with Mega Evolutions first introduced in Pokémon Legends: Z-A and the Mega Dimension DLC. This includes the powerful Zygarde and various Mythical Pokémon, creating a distinct competitive landscape. The season will run from Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 11:00 p.m. PDT to Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 6:59 p.m. PDT, providing a concentrated period for players to test their skills and reap the rewards.

Competitive play in Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s Ranked Battles Season 8 will involve four-player, real-time online battles against Trainers worldwide. Players will earn points based on their performance, progressing through ranks from Z to the ultimate Rank A. A “Ranked Battles Startup Guide” is available for those new to the competitive scene, offering a foundation for success.

Mega Stone Rewards and Ranking System

Rewards in Ranked Battles are distributed in three ways: battle rewards earned after each match, promotion rewards received upon advancing to a new rank, and season rewards based on final ranking. Notably, several Mega Stones will be available as promotion rewards for ranks Y through S, including Greninjite, Delphoxite, Chesnaughtite, Baxcalibrite, Sceptilite, Swampertite, and Blazikenite. This presents a valuable opportunity for both veteran and new players to expand their Mega Evolution options.

This season distinguishes itself by offering Mega Shards not only as promotion rewards but also as season rewards, increasing the potential gains for dedicated players. The specific rewards tied to each rank at the season’s conclusion have not been fully detailed, but the emphasis on Mega Shards signals a focus on facilitating Mega Evolution strategies.

Eligible Pokémon and Battle Restrictions

The pool of eligible Pokémon for Season 8 is restricted to those with Mega Evolutions discovered in Lumiose City or Hyperspace Lumiose. This includes Pokémon identified by Lumiose Pokédex numbers 003, 006, 009, 035, 037, 039 (Eternal Flower Floette only), 044, 046, 054 (excluding Alolan Raichu), 057, 070, 076, 121, 130, 134, 136, 144, 147, 160, 162, 171, 181, 185, 191, 211, 212, 215, 216, 219, 224, and 230, as well as Hyperspace Pokédex numbers 015, 021, 031, 034, 051, 063, 072, 083, 088, 113, 125, 131, and 132.

To maintain balance, only Pokémon with Mega Evolutions discovered in these locations can be registered to a Battle Team. Pokémon can be registered at any level between 1 and 100, but all Pokémon will be automatically leveled to 50 during battles. Only one Pokémon with a specific Pokédex number is permitted on a team.

Battle restrictions also apply to held items. Pokémon are permitted to hold Mega Stones discovered in Lumiose City or Hyperspace Lumiose, but no other held items are allowed.

How to Participate

Participating in Ranked Battles Season 8 is straightforward. Players must launch Pokémon Legends: Z-A, navigate to Link Play via the X Button on the main menu, and then select Ranked Battles. To be eligible for season rewards, players must complete at least one match during the season. After the season concludes, rewards can be claimed through the same Link Play menu.

The competitive season promises a focused and rewarding experience for Pokémon Legends: Z-A players. With the emphasis on Mega Evolution and the availability of valuable Mega Shards, trainers are encouraged to hone their skills and battle for supremacy.
