The cozy life simulation game, Pokémon Pokopia, is officially available now on Nintendo Switch 2, and players can immediately dive into a limited-time event. Nintendo has announced the first in-game event, “More Spores for Hoppip,” offering exclusive Pokémon encounters and themed rewards starting March 9, 2026.
Pokémon Pokopia casts players as a Ditto transformed into a human, tasked with rebuilding a desolate world into a thriving utopia. The game focuses on crafting, collecting, and creating a welcoming environment for Pokémon. This launch event signals Nintendo’s commitment to regularly adding recent content and activities to the game, extending the gameplay experience beyond the core story.
The “More Spores for Hoppip” event will run from Monday, March 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. To Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 12:59 p.m. PDT, according to the official Pokémon website. During this period, players will have the opportunity to befriend Hoppip, the Cottonweed Pokémon, and collect special cotton spores.
These cotton spores act as an in-game currency, exchangeable for picnic-themed furniture. Using this furniture to create habitats will attract Skiploom and Jumpluff, Pokémon that are exclusively available during the event. Nintendo notes that these Pokémon cannot be encountered outside of the event timeframe, encouraging players to participate while the opportunity lasts.
Event Restrictions and Accessibility
The “More Spores for Hoppip” event has a couple of limitations. According to Pokémon.com, the event will not be accessible on the Cloud Islands and requires players to have rebuilt the Pokémon Center in their town before participating. This suggests a progression system within the game where players must first establish a base before unlocking event content.
Additional Launch Perks
Beyond the event, Nintendo is offering launch-day bonuses. Players can receive a Ditto rug through the Mystery Gift menu, available until January 31, 2027. The Mystery Gift menu is unlocked after approximately 30 minutes of gameplay. The first wave of Pokémon Pokopia icons is now available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, with four total waves planned, the last of which will be available until April 1, 2026, as reported by Nintendo.com.
Pokémon Pokopia allows players to shape their world by crafting items, growing crops, and customizing their homes. The game features a real-time day and night cycle and varying weather patterns, adding to the immersive experience. Players can too utilize Pokémon abilities, such as Bulbasaur’s Leafage to grow wild grass or Lapras’s Surf to traverse water, to aid in their exploration and town-building efforts.
System Date Manipulation
A Reddit post on r/Pokopia (PSA: The Hoppip event content can be accessed today if you set your system’s date to March 10, so it’s not time locked content) indicates that the event content is tied to the system date, and players can potentially access it early by manually adjusting their Nintendo Switch 2’s internal clock. Though, this method is not officially supported by Nintendo.
With Pokémon Pokopia launching today and the “More Spores for Hoppip” event on the horizon, Nintendo is setting the stage for a continuous stream of content and activities for players to enjoy. The game’s focus on a relaxed, customizable experience, combined with regular events, aims to create a long-lasting and engaging community.
