On Friday afternoon the plane landed at Baghdad airport with Pope Francis on board. A truly historic visit – the first by a Catholic church leader in predominantly Muslim Iraq.
It is also the Pope’s first trip abroad since the beginning of the corona pandemic. “I am very pleased to be able to resume my trips,” said Francis to journalists on the flight. The visit is a duty to a country that has been battered for many years. Many Christians in Iraq in particular had long wanted this trip.
