On Monday afternoon, the Atlanta Hawks face the Minnesota Timberwolves on NBA “Martin Luther King Day”. On this occasion, the Hawks will play with a special “MLK” jersey to honor Martin Luther King, native of Atlanta.
Earlier today Friday, the Atlanta Hawks shared on social media a video of Pope Francis blessing this particular jersey. The jersey was number 1 with the Pope’s name on the back.
It is no coincidence that Pope Francis blessed this jersey since the latter followed with great attention what NBA players were doing to fight against ethnic and social inequalities. Last November, a few league players even traveled to the Vatican to meet with Pope Francis on issues of ethnic and social inequality.
