In the wake of a missile attack on Ukraine on Saturday January 14 that injured many civilians, including children, Pope Francis once more asked for prayers for Ukraine and condemned the war. The Pope asked for prayers for Ukraine during a public meeting at the Vatican on January 18.

The Pope called on us not to forget the persecuted Ukraine, which needs our closeness, comfort and peace. The Pope recalled last Saturday’s missile attack in which many civilians and children were injured. The Pope, who said that he shares the pain of the families suffering from this tragedy, recalled that the images of this tragic accident are a powerful call to all human consciences. The Pope added that we can no longer continue in silence.

Media reported that 45 people were killed and 79 injured in the Russian attack. 19 people are yet to be found.
