During his first meetings with the Malian transitional authorities, the Under-Secretary-General for UN Operations did not hide that he was rather satisfied with the state of their cooperation. Today, the objective is to support Mali in several areas:
« The preparation of the elections, the implementation of progress in the application of the Algiers peace agreement and also of the intensified efforts regarding the situation in the center », Explains Jean-Pierre Lacroix.
He also discussed with Malian Prime Minister Moctar Ouane the new partnership between peacekeepers and other military forces present on the ground. “ It is a very united partnership, both in security areas, with G5 force, Malian armed forces, Barkhane, Tacouba and partners who intervene at the political level. This strengthens our solidarity, our determination to move forward. »
The UN envoy will pay tribute on Tuesday to the peacekeepers recently killed on the ground during jihadist attacks, before making a field visit.
