Firefighters and police in Strasbourg, in eastern France, spoke of a possible meteorite fall on Monday following an intervention on a vehicle with a hole half a meter in diameter on the roof.

The firefighters were called Monday morning to intervene on a “smoke release on a car” parked in a peripheral district of the Alsatian city.

“Following the recognition of the first team, we suspect the fall of a stellar body,” wrote the firefighters in their intervention report.

“No objects were found,” he continued. “Either the object was so small that it cannot be found, or the impact was such that the object disintegrated and turned into dust,” he put forward as hypotheses.

“We still have a suspicion regarding gravel” regarding two centimeters wide found on site, he said. This gravel was handed over to the police for further analysis to determine its nature.

“Did an object come from space?” That’s the whole question,” added the police officer. “Even a ball thrown at very high speed downhill can cause damage. But we still have to prove that it is an object that comes from space.”
