The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, ordered this Wednesday the deportation of 1,500 foreign criminals and terrorists who are being held in prisons throughout the country. The measure, which will be applied immediately, seeks to combat crime and terrorism in Ecuador, as well as protect the security of Ecuadorian citizens.

Of the total number of detainees, 90% allegedly correspond to citizens of Colombian origin. According to the Ministry of the Interior of Ecuador, the majority of these detainees are members of Criminal organizations that have kept Ecuadorian citizens in anxiety.

The deportation of these criminals and terrorists will be carried out in coordination with the authorities of the countries of origin. It is not yet known precisely whether the detainees will be transferred to their countries of origin on commercial flights or charters.

President Noboa’s measure, which has been received positively by Ecuadorian citizens, occurs following acts of violence were recorded throughout the country. These were carried out by organized crime and occurred in various penitentiary centers in Ecuadoras well as in the streets of the capital (Quito) and in cities like Guayaquil where a television channel was taken by storm.
