The team behind Project Motor Racing has issued a candid assessment of the game’s launch last November, admitting it fell short of expectations. In a recent newsletter to players, Straight4 Studios acknowledged the shortcomings and outlined plans for a “significant update” slated for the end of March, aiming to address core issues and deliver a more polished sim racing experience.
The developers didn’t shy away from taking responsibility, stating plainly, “We let you down, and we let ourselves down.” This admission comes after a rocky start for the title, which aimed to capture the intensity and realism of professional motorsport. The studio confirmed they’ve been working “tirelessly” to address player feedback through seven patches released since launch, but recognize more substantial changes are needed.
Project Motor Racing, released on November 25, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, was designed to offer a detailed career mode and full modding support from day one. The game utilizes the GIANTS Engine, the same technology powering the popular Farming Simulator franchise, and leverages a similar modding ecosystem, allowing players to tweak and customize their experience. However, initial reviews painted a different picture, with many players and critics finding the experience lacking in polish.
The upcoming update, described as a “reset” for the game’s foundation, is intended to bring Project Motor Racing closer to the standards expected of a serious motorsport title. Despite the initial challenges, Straight4 Studios and publisher GIANTS Software continue to emphasize the game’s robust modding capabilities. Leveraging the GIANTS Engine, Project Motor Racing offers full mod support, allowing players to create and share custom content through an in-game UGC portal. All user-generated content is tested by the developers before being made available for download.
