Breaking News: IKEA’s Cleaning Days and Scotiabank Mexico’s Green Mortgage Drive Sustainable Initiatives
In a significant push towards sustainability, IKEA collaborators are participating in cleaning days in the Aragon Forest, promoting corporate volunteering. Meanwhile, the Oceania store is leveraging technology with solar panels and biodigesters for sustainable management. These initiatives highlight the growing commitment to environmental responsibility.
IKEA’s Environmental Efforts
IKEA is stepping up its environmental initiatives. The company’s employees are actively involved in cleaning days in the Aragon Forest, demonstrating their commitment to preserving natural habitats. Additionally, the Oceania store is implementing solar panels and biodigesters to support sustainable management practices.
Scotiabank Mexico’s Green Mortgage
Before these recent developments, Scotiabank Mexico introduced a groundbreaking product called the “Green Mortgage.” This initiative aims to facilitate access to sustainable homes that incorporate ecological technologies and renewable energy solutions. The Green Mortgage is not just for new homes; it also supports used homes with environmentally friendly technologies.
Paulina Prieto, a Scotiabank Mexico representative, explained, “Unlike other banks, we serve both segments—new housing with Edge and Leed certificates and used housing. We collaborate with Solfium, a company specializing in solar panels, to add green attributes to these properties.”
The Green Mortgage seeks to reduce environmental impact and promote a more sustainable future. As more Mexicans commit to environmental causes, Scotiabank aims to provide financial solutions that foster sustainability. Currently, over 500 credits have been granted under the Green Mortgage product, with the goal of continuing to grow.
Impact and Benefits
According to data from the United Nations Environment Program, the real estate sector consumes about 60% of world energy and generates about 40% of greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainable homes can produce significant benefits, reducing waste and energy consumption. UNAM indicates that common homes produce 77% of garbage, spend 63% of LP gas, and consume 25% of the electricity generated in Mexico. Incorporating sustainable solutions like solar panels and water savers can generate additional benefits for homes.
How to Request the Green Mortgage
The process for requesting a Green Mortgage is straightforward. Scotiabank clients need to submit a signed application, official INE identification, proof of income, and proof of address. Once approved, clients will receive information about their line of credit, including an additional line for purchasing solar panels and other eco-friendly technologies.
Paulina Prieto Higuera emphasized, “The Green Mortgage is part of our efforts to promote models of the most sustainable residence for all our clients, offering preferential conditions.”
As the real estate sector continues to seek ways to reduce its environmental footprint, initiatives like IKEA’s cleaning days and Scotiabank Mexico’s Green Mortgage are setting the standard for corporate responsibility and sustainability.
