Prosecutor’s Office confirms that Ronald Ojeda’s crime “was organized in Venezuela” – La Discusión 2024-04-23 18:50:37

The Southern Metropolitan regional prosecutor, Héctor Barros, confirmed the thesis that the kidnapping and crime in Chile of the retired lieutenant, Ronald Ojeda, was organized from Venezuela.

After submitting information in a Chilevision reportBarros maintained this Friday that “it is basically what we have established based on the investigation since it began on February 21.”

The prosecutor asserted that the hypothesis that the crime was orchestrated directly from Venezuela was obtained following “discarding investigative lines.”

“We established that this was not a self-kidnapping, it was not an extortionate kidnapping, that this was organized by the Aragua train in the context of organized crime, where the victim’s profile leads us to conclude that the first hypotheses are ruled out,” he said. , alluding to Ojeda’s absence of links to crimes or the null request for payments for his release.

“Therefore, the only investigative line we have left is that (organized from Venezuela). We made a request for International Criminal Assistance in order to arrest the two Venezuelans who are currently in Venezuela,” said Barros.

However, Barros asserted that at the moment it is not possible to affirm that the case has political motivations.

“It is a transnational crime that was organized in Venezuela, I have not said that it is political or who organized it. That’s part of the investigation. The only line we have left is that the profile of the victim is political, who acted once morest the Venezuelan government and had political asylum in Chile,” he said.

Likewise, he stressed that “we established this following a series of precedents. If you analyze what has happened since January, in terms of extortion kidnappings, since the raid on the captivity house in Maipú we have had 0 extortion kidnappings, except for one, that of Lieutenant Ojeda. This one is absolutely different from the rest, he was murdered a few hours later, there was never a payment. The Aragua Train always leaves bodies abandoned, but in this case they took the trouble to bury it, put a bag of lime and a layer of cement on it.”

Barros stressed that “we have two Venezuelans identified as being linked to the crime.”
