“Protecting Livestock in the Vaudois Jura: The Middleway Approach to Human-Wildlife Coexistence”

2023-05-28 18:53:21

The summer season has started in the mountain pastures of the Vaudois Jura, where herds of cattle will graze in the coming months. Breeders fear many wolf attacks on livestock, while the new hunting ordinance, which allows the cantons to carry out preventive shooting, is not due to come into force until next year. The shepherd François Duruz is co-founder of the Middleway association, which supports the cohabitation between human activities and wildlife. Also employed by the Jean-Marc Landry Foundation (created by the eponymous wolf specialist), he carries the voice, often little heard, of the shepherds.
