Protecting Threatened Bank Swallows: The Importance of Swallow Walls and Conservation Efforts

2023-08-15 04:34:20

Bank swallows are one of three species of swallows in our regions. They are currently threatened. They have fewer insects to feed on (their insect biomass has decreased by 85%) and their natural habitat, on the banks of watercourses, has deteriorated, in particular due to flooding.

Some of these swallows have found refuge in quarries. In Lompret, near Chimay, a swallow wall has just been built and inaugurated, in order to facilitate the life (and survival) of this bird which is essential to biodiversity.
