Around fifty people demonstrated this morning in front of the H&M store on rue Neuve, in Brussels. The demonstrators carried out a festive action made up of songs, speeches and slogans to denounce the social and environmental abuses of the “fast fashion“. This action notably echoes the publication ofa survey conducted by the NGO Changing Markets which highlights the greenwashing of used clothing take-back systems.

Those present demonstrated peacefully to demand better management of clothing recycling, but also tougher European legislation once morest “fast fashion“. According to them, Europe must fight once morest the placing on the market of inexpensive clothing, made in conditions which do not respect workers’ rights, particularly in Asian countries.

The action started just as the store doors opened at 10 a.m. and lasted for an hour. During this time, customers might access the store. H&M did not want to comment on this event.
