Public Ministry charged two police officers with physical assault on a civilian in Portuguesa

Caracas.– The Public Ministry (MP) charged two police officers assigned to the Bolivarian Police Corps of Portuguesa, following physically assaulting and retaining a man’s motorcycle.

In a video recorded by the affected citizen, it is reflected how the officials attack him, and retain his motorcycle at the police station, in the middle of carrying out his duties.

The detained officers were identified as César Alexander Suárez and Franklin Benjamin Guédez Cordero.

Both are accused of the crimes of Cruel Treatment and Abuse of Authority in the exercise of their functions, according to the Attorney General Tarek William Saab.

The Superior Prosecutor’s Office of the Public Ministry of the Portuguesa state carried out the arrest of the officials and began the investigations of the case in order to determine responsibility for this fact.

Competent government authorities have urged the population to denounce irregularities and abuses committed by police forces.
