Rrussian president Wladimir Putin has blamed the West for “explosions” that would have led to multiple leaks in the Baltic Sea pipelines Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2. “Sanctions are not enough for the West, they have resorted to sabotage by organizing explosions on the international Nord Stream gas pipelines,” Putin said on Friday in a speech on the annexation of four Russian-held regions in Ukraine.
He then signed the agreements annexing four fully or partially Moscow-controlled regions in Ukraine. The four pro-Russian leaders of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, Kherson and Zaporizhia also signed the agreements at the ceremony with the country’s political elite. She and Putin then shook hands and shouted “Russia!” in unison.
Putin had previously said in his speech about the annexations, which are not internationally recognized: “The people have made their choice.” The Russian occupiers had held the sham referendums in the four regions until last Tuesday. Accordingly, the Russian occupiers spoke of an allegedly overwhelming consent of the local population to accession Russia.
The heads of state and government of the EU countries rejected the Russian annexation as unlawful. “We will never recognize this illegal annexation,” said a statement released on Friday. “These decisions are null and void and cannot have any legal effect.”
It was also said that the annexation was firmly rejected and unequivocally condemned. Russia is thus jeopardizing global security. At the same time, the heads of state and government emphasized that they remain committed to the side of the Ukraine to stand. The country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty are supported without any ifs or buts.
The mock referendums are not recognized worldwide because they are held in violation of Ukrainian and international laws and without minimum democratic standards. Over the past few days, observers have pointed to numerous cases in which Ukrainian residents of the occupied territories have been forced to vote.
Putin accuses West of hybrid war
In his speech, Putin went on to say: “The residents of Luhansk and Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia will forever be our citizens.” The people “voted for our common future.” Putin sharply attacked the West again. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the decision was made there to cover the world with its dictatorship. Russia is not trying to resurrect the Soviet Union. The West, on the other hand, is still looking for ways to weaken Russia.
He accused the West of waging a hybrid war against his country. Russia’s development and its culture are seen as a threat. But Russia will defend its values and fatherland. The Western elites are still what they always were – colonialists.
He also called on Ukraine to immediately cease all hostilities. “We call on the Kiev regime to immediately stop shelling and all hostilities and return to the negotiating table,” Putin said.
Putin ended his speech with these words: “The truth is behind us, Russia is behind us.” The “ceremony” to sign the annexation of the four Ukrainian regions then began.
